Congress Holds Crucial meeting Ahead of Maharashtra State Elections.

The Congress party in Maharashtra is currently holding a crucial brainstorming session at Garware Club in Mumbai ahead of the upcoming Assembly polls. Key figures in attendance include Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal, Maharashtra in-charge Ramesh Chennithala, Maharashtra Congress President Nana Patole, and prominent leaders like Balasaheb Thorat, Vijay Wadettiwar, Leader of Opposition Prithviraj Chavan, Sushil Kumar Shinde, Mukul Wasnik, and Avinash Pandey.

This meeting aims to develop a strategy for the forthcoming assembly elections in Maharashtra. The Congress party, having emerged as the largest party in the recent parliamentary elections with 13 Lok Sabha MPs, is keen on maintaining its stronghold.

The Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance, which includes Shiv Sena UBT’s 9 MPs and the NCP (Pawar)’s 8 MPs, won 30 out of the 48 constituencies in Maharashtra during the last elections.

A top party leader indicated that the meeting would not only focus on the assembly poll strategy but also on the party’s position within the alliance. As the largest party in the Maharashtra Assembly with 38 MLAs, Congress aims to discuss regions, seats, and numbers for the upcoming elections. The NCP and Shiv Sena have experienced splits since the last assembly polls, reducing their numbers, and this will also be a key discussion point.

The first session of the meeting is taking place at the Wankhede Stadium Conference Hall in the morning, with a second session scheduled at the party office in Tilak Bhawan post-lunch.

The success of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) in the recent Lok Sabha polls, where they secured 30 out of 48 seats, has set a positive tone for these discussions.

Congress is targeting key regions like Vidarbha, North Maharashtra, and Marathwada, where they have shown strong performance. In the Western Maharashtra region, the INDIA bloc, which includes Congress, outperformed the NDA, securing 47.8% of the vote compared to NDA’s 43.2%.

In Vidarbha, the INDIA bloc received 46% of the vote, while the NDA got 37.10%. Similarly, in Marathwada, the INDIA bloc garnered 44.7% of the vote, significantly ahead of the NDA’s 29.00%.

This session underscores Congress’s intent to solidify its position and strategize effectively for the upcoming Assembly polls, leveraging its recent electoral successes and addressing the challenges posed by the splits within the alliance parties. The focus on winnable seats and key regions highlights their commitment to strengthening their political foothold in Maharashtra.
