Maharashtra Minister Deepak Kesarkar Alleges CCTV Footage Missing in Assault Case.

Maharashtra Minister Deepak Kesarkar has raised concerns about the missing CCTV footage from a school in Badlapur, where two minor girls were allegedly sexually assaulted.

According to Kesarkar, the footage from the past 15 days is no longer available, prompting serious questions about the circumstances behind its disappearance and the potential motives involved.

Kesarkar emphasised the need for a thorough investigation into the missing footage, highlighting the importance of understanding how and why this critical evidence has vanished. He also suggested that schools should consider installing panic buttons, similar to CCTV systems, to enhance safety measures.

Kesarkar believes that such technology could provide additional security and quick response capabilities, especially in sensitive environments like school hostels.

The Maharashtra Education Minister addressed the media in Mumbai, outlining the steps being taken to address the issue. He noted that the investigation into the Badlapur incident is being led by the deputy director of the Mumbai region and involves various departments. The police are working to determine the appropriate charges and hold accountable those identified as negligent or complicit in the case.

In response to the incident, a report from the Women and Child Welfare Department and the Education Ministry was submitted to Kesarkar on Monday. This report details the findings and the steps being taken to address the sexual abuse case involving the two fourth-grade girls.

The special investigation team (SIT) has also registered an FIR against the school authorities for failing to adhere to Section 19 of the POCSO Act. This section mandates that any authority aware of sexual assault against minors must report it to the police.
