Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday marked eleven years of the 'Make in India' campaign, declaring that the initiative had become a pillar of the nation’s economic self-reliance and innovation.

Reflecting on its journey, Modi said the programme, launched in 2014, had given momentum to India’s growth and unlocked the entrepreneurial potential of the country. “It is gladdening to see how 11 Years Of Make In India has contributed to furthering economic strength and laying the foundation for Aatmanirbharta. It has encouraged innovation and job creation across sectors,” he wrote on X.

The Prime Minister said the vision behind the initiative was to ensure Indian entrepreneurs could compete globally and push the country towards self-sufficiency. “11 years ago on this day, the Make in India initiative was launched with a vision to add momentum to India's growth and tap into our nation's entrepreneurial potential,” he posted, adding, “Make in India has given an impetus to India's entrepreneurs, thus creating a global impact.”

At the inauguration of the Uttar Pradesh International Trade Show-2025, Modi underlined the government’s focus on domestic manufacturing, assuring industry leaders that unnecessary restrictions had been lifted to encourage ease of doing business.

“The government is putting a strong emphasis on Make in India manufacturing. We want everything from chip to ship to be manufactured in India; for this, we are focusing on your ease of doing business. The government abolished more than 40,000 compliances, and more than a thousand laws were decriminalised. We are standing with you shoulder-to-shoulder,” he told the gathering.

Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal also hailed the programme’s achievements, particularly in the field of defence. “The world is a witness to India's defence manufacturing strength today! Guided by the vision of PM Narendra Modi, the nation has scripted landmark achievements in indigenous defence production, reflecting the success of the Make In India initiative,” he wrote on X.

Coinciding with the anniversary, India successfully test-launched the Intermediate Range Agni-Prime Missile from a rail-based mobile launcher system. Capable of striking targets up to 2,000 km away, the missile is a crucial addition to the country’s defence capability. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated the agencies involved in the launch.
