Chandigarh MP Manish Tewari’s cryptic post fuels talk of Congress friction.

Congress MP Manish Tewari has taken a subtle dig at his own party after he and Shashi Tharoor were left out of the list of speakers for the ongoing discussion on Operation Sindoor in Parliament.

Both Tewari and Tharoor had been part of the government’s all-party delegations that travelled abroad following Operation Sindoor to corner Pakistan over its alleged support for terrorism.

Despite their active roles, the Congress decided not to field either of the senior leaders, known for their articulate interventions, for the high-profile debate that began on Monday. The move has triggered fresh speculation of internal friction within the party.

In a cryptic post on social media, the Chandigarh MP shared a screenshot of a news report highlighting that he and Tharoor had been sidelined for the debate.

Alongside, Tewari posted lines from the well-known patriotic song from the 1970 film Purab Aur Pachhim: “Hai preet jahaan ki reet sada, main geet wahaan ke gaata hoon, Bharat ka rehne waala hoon, Bharat ki baat sunata hoon. Jai Hind.”

According to media, Tewari had written to the party leadership expressing his wish to speak during the discussion but was not included. Another Congress MP, Amar Singh, who was also part of the all-party delegation, did not find a spot among the speakers either.

In Tharoor’s case, party sources said the Congress had approached the Thiruvananthapuram MP to speak in the House. However, he is learnt to have declined the request, citing that he would not be able to align with the party’s line of criticism against Operation Sindoor.

The Congress benches’ decision to keep both senior leaders away from the debate has sparked murmurs within the party about possible discord over its strategy on the crucial issue.
