Lalit Mohan Jha (28) who purportedly masterminded Wednesday's ‘Parliament security breach’ appeared as an intriguing character for residents of Rabindra Sarani in Kolkata where he once lived.

A piece of document in the possession of the News Arena India reveals that he is the son of Manjula Devi and Devanand Jha. As per the document the family originally hails from village Patuli (guessed as village Putai) in Darbhanga district of Bihar having 847423 as PIN Code number. There is ambiguity over Jha's origin as sources in the Darbhanga district of Bihar said that he is a native of Rampur Uday village under Bahera police station.

“He never revealed anything about himself. He was very secretive. He introduced himself as a private tutor so people used to call him Masterji. Rabindra Sarani is such a crowded place in Kolkata where the burden of livelihood is so huge that people are hardly left with time to peep inside others. People of this locality would not have recollected his name had he not been involved in such kind activities. Who knows whether he was a Masterji or a mastermind,” wondered a local resident who did want his name to be quoted.

Lalit Jha used to stay on the ground floor of an old four-storied building at 218 Rabindra Sarani and young people used to visit his room. But it is not clear whether these visitors were his friends, students or something else. This house he left abruptly.

Other than Rabindra Sarani, the security agencies have traced three other addresses where Lalit and his family lived namely Burrabazar, Girish Park and Baguiati.

His father Devanand Jha is a priest by profession as he was referred to as Panditji. Lalit is the second of three children of Manjual Jha and Devanand Jha. He studied in the Burrabazar area.

His parents and a brother Sonu Jha are currently in Darbhanga. In contrast, his elder brother Shambhu Jha stays at the Baguiati locality in Kolkata along with his wife and two children. The News Arena India tried to contact both brothers over the phone but their mobile phones were switched off.

His social media profiles and media reports have led security agencies to believe that he was deeply inclined towards ultra-left ideology enough to alert security agencies. It has been reported that he was also associated with a human rights group, the People's Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL).

The outfit is suspected of having covert links with Maoists. His photograph with TMC MLA Tapas Roy has surfaced triggering a war of words between the BJP and West Bengal’s ruling party, the TMC.

Lalit Jha had allegedly hatched and coordinated the criminal conspiracy to breach the security of Parliament. During Zero Hour of the winter session of the parliament, two of his associates Sagar Sharma and Manoranjan D jumped into the Lok Sabha chamber from the public gallery. They released yellow smoke and disrupted parliamentary proceedings.

The other two Amol Dhanraj Shinde and Neelam Devi committed similar crime of disruption and also released yellow smoke from canisters outside the Parliament premises.

Lalit Jha filed this incident on his mobile and sent it to his friend Nilaksha Aich, a second-year student of the government-run Bidhannagar College. As per the information, Aich a native of Halishahar belongs to a middle-class family and he runs two NGOs namely Sammobadi Subhas Sabha and Azad Hind Association.

The first NGO is said to be involved in spreading education among tribals in Purulia and Jhargram districts of West Bengal. The Azad Hind Association works in the area of civil liberties.

Aich appointed Lalit Jha as the secretary of Sammobadi Subhas Sabha. On some of the occasions Lalit Jha visited Maoism affected Purulia and Jhargram.

However, Aich claimed that he was not much acquainted with Lalit Jha. Security agencies are learnt to be sceptical about how an undergraduate student ran two NGOs, raised funds and worked in remote areas and whether these NGOs are being used to serve some other purposes.
