BSP chief Mayawati convened a crucial meeting to analyse the party's poor performance in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. This meeting, held in Lucknow, was attended by district-level officials, senior party leaders, and workers from across the state.
The primary focus was to understand why the BSP failed to secure even a single seat in the general elections and to strategize for the upcoming 2027 assembly elections.
The gathering at the BSP office saw participation from party leaders and officials nationwide, including BSP coordinators and district presidents from Uttar Pradesh. Notably, Akash Anand, who was previously removed from his position as the national coordinator, was also expected to be present.
In the recent elections, the Congress party, which formed an alliance with the Samajwadi Party (SP) and is part of the INDIA bloc, won six seats in Uttar Pradesh. The INDIA bloc collectively secured 43 seats in the state.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), despite being in a tough competition with the SP, managed to win only 33 seats, marking a significant decline from its 2019 tally of 63 seats in Uttar Pradesh.
On Saturday, the BSP announced a list of 13 star campaigners for the upcoming Uttarakhand Assembly by-elections. The list includes prominent figures such as Mayawati and her nephew Akash Anand.
Other notable names are Ramji Gautam, Suresh Arya, Sheeshpal Singh, Surajmal, Shehzad, BR Dhauni, Pradeep Chaudhary, Nathiram, Nand Gopal, Vinod Kumar Gautam, and Harish Chandra Sinoli. These leaders will campaign for the BSP in the by-elections.
The assembly by-polls for the Badrinath and Manglaur seats are scheduled for July 10. The Badrinath seat became vacant after Congress MLA Rajendra Bhandari resigned and joined the BJP. The Manglaur seat fell vacant following the death of BSP MLA Sarwat Karim Ansari. The counting of votes will take place on July 13.
Mayawati’s review meeting underscores the party's commitment to introspection and future planning after a disappointing performance in the general elections. The focus on the Uttarakhand by-elections and the upcoming 2027 assembly elections highlights the BSP’s efforts to regain its political footing and influence.
