The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) House witnessed chaos on Tuesday, leading to its adjournment without any discussions.
The uproar erupted over the alleged assault of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Swati Maliwal and demands for the appointment of a 'Dalit' Mayor. BJP councillors, holding placards, raised slogans against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi later shared insights, mentioning that BJP councillors disrupted proceedings and prevented discussions on MCD issues. She highlighted the BJP's obstruction of committee formations for over a year.
However, there were no official statements from the concerned parties regarding the alleged assault incident at the CM's residence.
Delhi Police clarified that they received a PCR call regarding the alleged assault but found no complaint when they arrived at the scene. MP Swati Maliwal later visited the police station but did not file a complaint.
These events unfolded just before the Lok Sabha elections in Delhi and the release of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal from jail. The Supreme Court granted him interim bail until June 1.
Delhi's seven Lok Sabha seats will go to polls on May 25, with AAP and Congress forming a joint alliance. AAP will contest four seats while Congress will contest three.
The election, spanning seven phases from April 19 to June 1, has witnessed significant political activity. The results are scheduled to be announced on June 4.
