In a detailed presentation to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs on Wednesday, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) addressed pressing issues with China and Canada, shedding light on the complexities of India's foreign relations.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri briefed the panel on the gradual progress in the disengagement process along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh, reiterating the points raised by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar in Parliament.

While the situation remains sensitive, the efforts signal a commitment to resolving border tensions.

The panel was apprised of the strained ties with Canada, with the Indian government attributing the downturn to Ottawa's "unfriendly policies."

Misri refuted Canada’s allegations of Indian involvement in the murder of Khalistani activist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, highlighting the lack of evidence presented by Canadian authorities.

"The Canadian government has failed to substantiate its accusations," he stated.

Misri further noted that Khalistani elements, while present in multiple countries, find significant support and space in Canada.

"Unlike other nations, Canada has been particularly permissive, providing a platform for anti-India campaigns," he said.

India has previously denounced the claims as "absurd" and "motivated," urging Canada to reassess its stance on fostering extremist elements.

Amid rising turmoil in Bangladesh following the deposition of Sheikh Hasina’s government, some committee members called for a dedicated briefing on the implications for India.

Reports of violence against Hindu minorities have raised concerns, prompting calls for diplomatic engagement and assistance.

The members of the committee commended the ministry for its detailed and professional presentation.

The briefing offered insights into India's foreign policy challenges and opportunities, while reinforcing the need for a measured and proactive approach to international relations.
