The Centre has approved a third tranche of proposals under the Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS), aimed at strengthening domestic supply chains, reducing import dependence for critical electronic components, and supporting the growth of high-value manufacturing capabilities in India, as per information shared by the Ministry of Electronics and IT on Friday.

The 22 new approved proposals will require an investment of ₹41,863 crore and aim at a production of ₹2,58,152 crore, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) said, adding that they are expected to generate 33,791 direct employment opportunities.

The approved proposals include those from Dixon, Samsung Display Noida Pvt Ltd, Foxconn (Yuzhan Technology India Pvt Ltd), and Hindalco Industries, to whom the Minister of Electronics and Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, handed out the approval letters on Friday.

As per a background note circulated by the ministry, the third tranche of approvals is in continuation of the approvals for 24 applications for an investment of ₹12,704 crore announced earlier, and includes the manufacturing of 11 target segment products that have cross-sectoral applications, such as mobile manufacturing, telecom, consumer electronics, strategic electronics, automotive, and IT hardware.

The slated projects are spread across eight states, including Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, and reflect the government’s focus on geographically-balanced industrial growth and expansion of electronics manufacturing across the country, the statement said.
