Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI) have announced the launch of the BhashaNet portal at the Universal Acceptance Day event held on thursday. The event was held with the active support of Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).
The launch of the BhashaNet portal is a big step forward in including everyone digitally in India. It shows that MeitY/NIXI are committed to making sure everyone can join the digital world, no matter what language they speak or what script they use.
Under the theme "BhashaNet: Impetus Towards Universal Acceptance," the event featured panel discussions and workshops with industry representatives from Bhashini, ONDC, NIC, C-DAC Microsoft, UASG of ICANN, Data Xgen, Infibeam, ZOHO, and FICCI. These sessions aimed to empower participants and the community at large in achieving Universal Acceptance readiness for applications and systems.
India's successful hosting of the regional Universal Acceptance Day event sets the stage for the upcoming Global Universal Acceptance Day scheduled for March 28, 2024, in Belgrade, Serbia.
Secretary of MeitY, Shri S Krishnan, emphasized in his keynote address that Universal Acceptance is essential for an inclusive internet, allowing non-English speakers to access the internet.
He stressed the importance of leveraging technology and collaboration to meet the needs of every user, irrespective of language or script, and highlighted India's potential to lead in standards for Universal Acceptance conformance.
Government officials and industry leaders gathered to commemorate this milestone, reflecting India's commitment to creating a more inclusive digital space.
