Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday met visiting Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand in New Delhi and called for “new momentum” in bilateral ties, particularly in trade, energy, technology, agriculture, and people-to-people linkages.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), Modi emphasised that the visit would help “impart fresh impetus” to India–Canada relations at a time when both countries are looking to deepen strategic and economic cooperation.
He extended warm wishes to his Canadian counterpart Mark Carney and expressed eagerness for upcoming engagements. “Prime Minister noted the significance of enhanced cooperation between the two countries in trade, energy, technology, agriculture and people-to-people ties. Prime Minister conveyed his warm wishes to Prime Minister Mark Carney and said that he looked forward to their upcoming engagements,” the PMO release stated.
Recalling his June 2025 visit to Canada for the G7 Summit, Modi described his meeting with Carney as “extremely productive” and said it had laid the groundwork for expanded collaboration between the two nations. “Prime Minister welcomed Foreign Minister Anand and conveyed that her visit would contribute to ongoing efforts to impart new momentum to the India-Canada bilateral partnership,” the statement added.
