As voting trends in the United States presidential election confirmed a sweeping win for the Republican candidate, Donald Trump, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his “heartiest congratulations” to his American counterpart.
Modi, in a post on the social platform X, addressed Trump as “my friend,” expressing optimism for renewed collaboration in the realms of diplomacy, economy, and security.
“Heartiest congratulations, my friend @realDonaldTrump, on your historic election victory,” Modi wrote.
“As you build on the successes of your previous term, I look forward to renewing our collaboration to further strengthen the India-US Comprehensive Global and Strategic Partnership. Together, let’s work for the betterment of our people and to promote global peace, stability, and prosperity,” he continued.
Trump’s victory comes on the back of an extraordinary performance in the battleground states, where the Republicans achieved an impressive reversal from the previous election by taking all seven swing states— a marked shift from the Democrats’ 6-1 lead in 2020.
As projections pointed to a decisive win, Trump addressed his supporters, describing it as a “magnificent victory for the American people.” In his speech, he referred to the attempt on his life earlier this year, saying, “God spared my life for a reason.”
Describing the Republican movement as “the greatest political movement of all time,” Trump asserted, “We are going to help our country heal, fix our borders, and we made history for a reason tonight. We have achieved the most incredible political win. I want to thank the American people. I will fight for you and your family with every breath in my body.”
The Republican candidate reportedly leads with a commanding 315 electoral votes, which has secured not only the White House but also control of the Senate.
The party holds a strong lead in the House of Representatives as well, suggesting a consolidated Republican influence across all branches of government.
Thanking his supporters, running mate JD Vance, his wife Melanie Trump, and his children, Trump also gave a nod to Tesla CEO Elon Musk, a vocal supporter.
