Union Home Minister Amit Shah declared on Wednesday that the Narendra Modi administration is poised to eradicate Naxalism from India in a remarkably short span of time.
Following the recent encounter in Chhattisgarh where security forces neutralised 29 Maoists, Shah reaffirmed the government's relentless efforts against terrorism and Naxal insurgency.
"With utmost conviction, I affirm that operations against Naxals will persist, and under Prime Minister Modi's leadership, we will eradicate Naxalism from our nation swiftly," Shah stated.
Highlighting the progress made since the formation of a BJP government in Chhattisgarh three months ago, Shah noted that over 80 Naxals have been eliminated, more than 125 arrested, and over 150 have surrendered.
Shah confirmed the establishment of numerous security camps in Maoist-affected regions since 2014, with an additional 250 camps set up since 2019 to eliminate security vulnerabilities.
The recent encounter in Chhattisgarh marked a significant milestone, resulting in the highest casualties suffered by Maoists in a single confrontation in the state's history of combating Left Wing Extremism.
Since the beginning of 2024, 79 Naxalites have been neutralised in separate skirmishes with security forces in the Bastar region, a stronghold of the Maoists.
The exchange also resulted in injuries to three security personnel, with a substantial cache of weapons seised.
