Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed Egyptian Foreign Minister Dr Badr Abdelatty to New Delhi on Friday, highlighting the growing strategic partnership between the two nations and expressing deep appreciation for President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi’s pivotal role in brokering the Gaza Peace Agreement.
The Prime Minister described President Sisi as “a friend” and lauded his efforts in securing peace in Gaza. “Pleased to receive Foreign Minister of Egypt, Dr. Badr Abdelatty. Conveyed deep appreciation for my friend, President Sisi, for his crucial role in the Gaza Peace Agreement. India-Egypt Strategic Partnership continues to grow from strength to strength for the benefit of our people, our shared region and the humanity,” Modi said in a post on X.
Abdelatty is on a two-day visit to India. On Thursday, he held talks with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal. He co-chaired the inaugural India-Egypt Strategic Dialogue with Jaishankar, described by the minister as “a milestone” providing a platform to review bilateral progress and plan future collaboration.

Jaishankar noted that since the elevation of ties to a strategic partnership in 2023, cooperation has intensified across sectors including trade, investment, defence, renewable energy, and digital innovation. He also highlighted shared commitments to regional stability in West Asia and advancing the voice of the Global South.
“India and Egypt share a commitment to the progress of the Global South and to strengthening the independence and freedom of choice of nations in world affairs,” Jaishankar said. He also expressed gratitude for Egypt’s solidarity following the Pahalgam terrorist attack, noting that Modi and Sisi had spoken soon after the incident.
Abdelatty echoed the importance of the strategic dialogue, stating, “This is a testament to the commitments by our two leaders since we signed the strategic partnership agreement in June 2023. We have a long-standing relationship bound by history, geography, and shared interests, but we must do more for the benefit of our two great peoples.”
He further called for deeper economic engagement, urging business communities in both countries to explore joint ventures and maximise trade opportunities. Earlier in the day, Abdelatty met with Indian business leaders and CEOs investing in or exploring opportunities in Egypt.
