Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to make a visit to Gujarat on Monday, where he will inaugurate the TATA Aircraft Complex. This facility, located at the TATA Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) campus, is dedicated to the manufacturing of C-295 military aircraft. The inauguration will be a joint effort between Modi and his Spanish counterpart, Pedro Sanchez.
The C-295 programme encompasses a total of 56 aircraft, with 16 being directly delivered by Airbus from Spain. The remaining 40 aircraft will be manufactured in India, and Tata Advanced Systems Ltd will oversee this production.
This complex will be notable as it represents the first private sector Final Assembly Line (FAL) for military aircraft in the country. The facility is designed to create a comprehensive ecosystem that will cover every stage from manufacturing to assembly, testing, qualification, and ultimately, the delivery and maintenance of the aircraft throughout its lifecycle.
In addition to Tata, other prominent players in the defence sector will contribute to this project. Leading public sector units such as Bharat Electronics Ltd. and Bharat Dynamics Ltd. will be involved, along with numerous private Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). This collaboration is aimed at bolstering India’s defence manufacturing capabilities and reducing reliance on imports.
Prime Minister Modi had previously laid the foundation stone for the Vadodara Final Assembly Line in October 2022, marking an important step in advancing the country's defence infrastructure.
Following the inauguration of the aircraft complex, Modi will travel to Laxmi Vilas Palace in Vadodara for further engagements. From Vadodara, he will then head to Amreli, where he is scheduled to inaugurate the Bharat Mata Sarovar.
The Prime Minister's visit is not just limited to the aircraft complex. He will also inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for a variety of development projects worth over Rs 4,800 crores.
These initiatives are intended to benefit citizens across several districts, including Amreli, Jamnagar, Morbi, Devbhoomi Dwarka, Junagadh, Porbandar, Kachchh, and Botad.
One major focus of this visit will be road development. Modi will inaugurate road projects totaling more than Rs 2,800 crores. This includes the four-laning of key sections of NH 151, NH 151A, and NH 51, as well as the Junagadh bypass.
The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation for the four-laning of the remaining section from the Dhrol bypass in Jamnagar district to Amran in Morbi district, enhancing connectivity in the region.
Additionally, Modi will dedicate the Bhuj-Naliya Rail Gauge Conversion Project to the nation, which was completed at an impressive cost of around Rs 1,100 crores. This project features 24 major bridges, 254 minor bridges, three road overbridges, and 30 road underbridges. It is expected to play a crucial role in the socio-economic development of the Kachchh district.
The water supply sector will also see substantial investments during this visit. Modi will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for water supply projects worth over Rs 700 crores in Amreli district.
Among the key projects is the Navda to Chavand bulk pipeline, which will provide an additional 28 crore litres of water to approximately 67 lakh beneficiaries across 36 cities and 1,298 villages in Botad, Amreli, Junagadh, Rajkot, and Porbandar districts.
Another notable initiative will be the foundation stone laying for the Pasavi Group Augmentation Water Supply Scheme Phase 2 in Bhavnagar district, benefiting 95 villages in the Mahuva, Talaja, and Palitana talukas.
Finally, the Prime Minister will announce several tourism-related development projects, including plans to transform the Karli Recharge Reservoir at Mokarsagar in Porbandar district into a world-class eco-tourism destination. This initiative is expected to promote sustainable tourism while enhancing local infrastructure and services.
