“In a historic initiative that takes Indians back to their past colonial legacy and forward to their present-day administrative dreams, the new Prime Minister's Office will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 13th and named 'Seva Teerth.' The date is of particular importance, marking exactly 95 years since New Delhi was formally inaugurated as the capital city under Viceroy Lord Irwin in 1931."
The new edifice, which would be located in close proximity to the iconic Raisina Hill complex, would accommodate the PMO, the NSCS, and the Cabinet Secretariat, thereby integrating the currently scattered locations within the Central Vista.
Apart from that, PM Modi would also launch Kartavya Bhawan 1 and 2, which is expected to house a number of important ministries, including Defence, Finance, and Law, which will be moved out of the historic British colonial-era buildings of North and South Blocks. These older buildings are slated to be repurposed into the "Yuge Yugeen Bharat National Museum," destined to be the largest in the world.
The inauguration constitutes a major milestone in the ongoing redevelopment of the Central Vista, a project aimed at modernising India’s power corridor, which already saw the opening of the new Parliament building in 2023.
