Union Minister Raksha Khadse has lodged a complaint against a group of youths for allegedly harassing her minor daughter and other girls during the Sant Muktai Yatra in Maharashtra’s Jalgaon.
The incident, which took place during the annual religious procession, has sparked strong reactions, including a firm response from Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
Raksha Khadse, a BJP leader and Union Minister, stated that the incident occurred when her daughter attended the yatra two days ago. According to her, a few youths misbehaved with her daughter and others, prompting her to approach the police.
She emphasised that such behaviour should not be tolerated and urged authorities to take strict action against those responsible.
During the altercation, the accused allegedly manhandled the minister’s security personnel, grabbing his collar and issuing threats. This escalation of the situation has raised concerns about security at public gatherings and the conduct of those involved.
Sources indicate that some of the accused have criminal backgrounds and are linked to Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction) MLA Chandrakant Patil. This connection has added a political dimension to the case, drawing attention to the need for accountability.
Reacting to the incident, Devendra Fadnavis condemned the act and assured that the culprits would not be spared. He described the incident as shameful and confirmed that the police had taken action by registering a case and arresting one of the accused. He reiterated that such behaviour would not be tolerated and that strict measures would be taken against all those involved.
The police have launched an investigation into the case. A senior police official handling the matter confirmed that the accused had been booked under various charges, including stalking and molestation.
Sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Information Technology (IT) Act have also been invoked.
The incident occurred on February 28 in Kothali village, Muktainagar taluka, when a group of youths, led by Aniket Ghui, allegedly harassed multiple girls participating in the yatra.
Following the complaint, one accused has been arrested, and three special teams have been deployed to track down the remaining suspects.
