A motorcyclist died on Friday morning after falling into a pit dug for construction work by the Delhi Jal Board in west Delhi’s Janakpuri area, police said.
A call regarding the incident was received around 7 am, they said, following which police personnel rushed to the spot and found the body inside the pit, along with the motorcycle.
Police have identified the deceased as Kamal Dhyani, 25, a resident of Kailashpuri, who worked at the call centre of a private bank.
The victim’s family alleged negligence on the part of the DJB and also suspected foul play in his death. A senior police official said preliminary investigations suggested the pit was dug at a DJB construction site and was barricaded.
Urban Development minister, Ashish Sood, said the Delhi government has ordered a probe into the motorcyclist’s death. He also expressed that he was deeply hurt by the death of the youth on Joginder Singh Marg.

“I visited the accident site and also met the family members of the deceased. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and the entire Delhi government stand with the family. Order has been issued for a probe of the incident, and the guilty will be punished strictly,” Sood said in a post on X.
There is growing public frustration at the lack of civic bodies’ responsibility and failing infrastructure. On the night of January 16-17, 2026, another similar tragic accident killed 27-year-old Yuvraj Mehta, a software engineer, when he drowned after his car plunged into a deep, water-filled pit in Sector 150 of Greater Noida.
