Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav visited the family of CRPF jawan Kabir Das Uikey, who died in an anti-terror operation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district. Uikey, a resident of Pulpuldoh village in Chhindwara, was critically injured during an encounter in Saida Sukhal village on June 11 and succumbed to his injuries on June 12.
Chief Minister Yadav arrived by helicopter at around 3:15 pm and went directly to Uikey’s residence. He spent about 15 minutes with the grieving family, offering his condolences and emotional support.
The sight of Uikey’s mother and wife, who were visibly distraught, deeply moved the Chief Minister. He assured them of all possible assistance, announcing a compensation of Rs 1 crore for the family and promising a government job to one of the family members.
Other local public representatives accompanied Yadav during his visit. Earlier, on Thursday, the mortal remains of Kabir Das Uikey were brought back to his hometown, Chhindwara.
The remains arrived at Mungapar, approximately 15 kilometres from his village, where state minister Sampatiya Uikey, Chhindwara MP Vivek Bunty Sahu, local representatives, and other residents paid tribute to the jawan. The convoy then reached Uikey’s village, where he was given a guard of honour, and the last rites were performed with full honours.
CRPF IG Gurshakti Singh Sodhi, CRPF DIG Neetu Singh, Chhindwara Collector Sheelendra Singh, and Superintendent of Police (SP) Manish Khatri were also present at the ceremony.
Minister Sampatiya Uikey expressed her condolences to the press, stating, “We have come here to pay tribute to CRPF Jawan Kabir Das Uikey who lost his life in an anti-terror operation in Jammu and Kashmir. I am here as a representative of the MP government. I pray for the departed soul to rest in peace and for the family to have strength in this hour of grief.”
Kabir Das Uikey was the eldest among four siblings, with two brothers and two sisters. His sisters are married, while his younger brother remains unmarried. Uikey is survived by his mother, wife, and younger brother; his father had previously passed away.
Jammu and Kashmir has seen a surge in violence recently, with three significant attacks in Reasi, Kathua, and Doda. The series of attacks began on June 9, when terrorists targeted a bus in Reasi, causing it to plunge into a gorge. This tragic incident resulted in the deaths of at least nine pilgrims and injuries to 42 others.
Following this, villagers in the Hiranagar area of Kathua reported hearing gunshots, which was followed by an attack on a security check post in the Chattragala area.
The encounter in Doda involved an exchange of fire between terrorists and security forces, resulting in injuries to five jawans and a sub-divisional special police officer.
These incidents have prompted heightened security measures and reviews by top officials, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who is closely monitoring the situation and has scheduled further meetings to assess and enhance security protocols in the region.
