The newly appointed High Commissioner of India to the Maldives, G Balasubramanian, presented his Letters of Credence to President Mohamed Muizzu at a formal ceremony held at the President’s Office on Monday.
The event was marked by a traditional cultural procession, known as 'Haiykolhu,' which involved the High Commissioner being escorted by the Maldives National Defence Force Drum and Trumpet Band from Republic Square to the President’s Office.
This ceremonial presentation of credentials signifies the beginning of High Commissioner Balasubramanian’s tenure as India’s official representative to the Maldives.
President Muizzu warmly received the Letters of Credence and extended his welcome to High Commissioner Balasubramanian.
During their meeting, the High Commissioner conveyed greetings and well wishes from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar to the President and the people of the Maldives.
The discussions revolved around enhancing the partnership between the two nations, with particular focus on ongoing Indian government-supported development projects in the Maldives.
Both leaders underscored the significance of strengthening economic ties through increased investments in various sectors.
The conversation also highlighted the importance of fostering people-to-people connections as a cornerstone for the enduring friendship between India and the Maldives.
The shared goal of expanding collaboration across diverse fields was emphasised, reflecting a mutual commitment to bolstering bilateral ties for the long term.
President Muizzu and High Commissioner Balasubramanian reaffirmed their dedication to deepening the relationship between the two nations. They agreed on the importance of ensuring stability and growth through continued cooperation in areas such as trade, infrastructure, education, and cultural exchange.
