Umar Ansari, the son of late gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari, was arrested by Ghazipur police from Lucknow. The arrest stems from a case in which Ansari is accused of submitting forged documents to a court in an attempt to reclaim his father's seized properties.
According to a statement from the Ghazipur Superintendent of Police, Mukhtar Ansari's properties had been confiscated under the provisions of the Uttar Pradesh Gangsters and Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act. Following his father's death from cardiac arrest in March, Umar Ansari filed a petition seeking the release of these properties.
Ghazipur police allege that in a bid to secure illegal gains, Umar Ansari submitted fraudulent documents to the court, which reportedly bore the fake signatures of his mother, Afshan Ansari. Afshan Ansari is currently absconding and is wanted in multiple cases, with a reward of ₹50,000 on her head.
Upon discovering the alleged forgery, a case was registered against Umar Ansari at the Mohammadabad police station under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police sources confirmed that a team from Ghazipur police took Umar Ansari into custody from Lucknow, and a further investigation into the matter is underway.
