Mukhtar Ansari was sentenced to life imprisonment on Wednesday in the court of Special Judge (MP-MLA Court) Avnish Gautam in the fake arms license case. During this, Mukhtar was presented through video conferencing.
On June 5, 2023, the same court had sentenced Mukhtar Ansari to life imprisonment in the Awadhesh Rai murder case. Mukhtar has been convicted in seven cases so far. Varanasi Court has sentenced in the eighth case.
According to the prosecution, on June 10, 1987, Mukhtar Ansari petitioned to the District Magistrate of Ghazipur for a double barrel gun licence.
The allegation was that he obtained the gun licence by forging signatures from the District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police of Ghazipur.
After the scam was discovered, CBCID filed a case against Mukhtar Ansari, the then-Deputy Collector, and five named and unknown individuals at Ghazipur's Mohammadabad police station on December 4, 1990.
Following an investigation, Mukhtar Ansari and Gaurishankar Srivastava, the ordnance clerk at the time, were named in a charge sheet that was submitted to the court in 1997.
On August 18, 2021, the case against Gaurishankar Srivastava was closed due to his death during the hearing. The prosecution's case was made in court by Prosecution Officer Uday Raj Shukla and ADGC Vinay Kumar Singh.
