Mumbai saw heavy rainfall on Monday, which led to waterlogging in several parts of the city and caused traffic problems. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai and nearby areas, warning that more rain is likely in the next two days.
Places like Andheri, Marine Drive, Vile Parle, and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus were heavily waterlogged, making it difficult for vehicles and people to move around. Many commuters had to walk through water during the busy morning hours. The IMD said the city will likely continue to have cloudy skies with moderate rainfall through the day. Areas like Kurla, Borivali, Andheri, and South Mumbai are not under a direct weather warning, but nearby Thane is under a yellow alert.
“Temperatures may feel a bit cooler, but it will still be humid,” an IMD official said. Tuesday is expected to bring more rain and cloudy skies. Delhi also had a cloudy start to the week. The IMD said rain is expected later in the day. On Monday morning, the temperature in Delhi was 27.2°C with 83% humidity. The city’s air quality was in the “satisfactory” range, with an AQI of 77.
In Uttarakhand, the IMD issued an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall in six districts: Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, Nainital, Champawat, and Udham Singh Nagar. Thunderstorms and strong winds are also expected in some places. As a safety measure, the Dehradun district administration ordered all schools and Anganwadi centres for Classes 1 to 12 to stay closed on Monday.
