Preparations for the 2027 Nashik Kumbh Mela are underway, with the city set to undergo significant infrastructure development, including the construction of new sewage treatment plants (STPs) and highways.
Authorities have initiated long-term projects to accommodate the vast influx of devotees expected at the religious gathering.
Nashik Divisional Commissioner Praveen Gedam stated that officials from the city had studied the arrangements at the recently concluded Prayagraj Maha Kumbh in Uttar Pradesh, held between January 13 and February 26, to draw lessons for their own planning.
"Nashik officials visited the Prayagraj Maha Kumbh and studied the preparations there, and on that basis, preparations have started in Nashik as well. The works which may take a year or more, such as highways or STPs, we will undertake in the first phase, while projects requiring six to eight months will commence immediately after that," Gedam said.

The administration has sanctioned funds for the development of the Nashik-Trimbakeshwar road, a key route for pilgrims. "Money has been approved for the development of the area from Nashik-Trimbakeshwar road. The specifications will be finalised this week, and work will begin soon thereafter," Gedam added.
The Prayagraj Maha Kumbh attracted an estimated 70 crore devotees from across the world, according to figures released by the Uttar Pradesh government.
The Nashik Kumbh, like its counterpart in Prayagraj, is held every 12 years and draws millions of pilgrims seeking to take a holy dip in the Godavari river.
