Mumbai observed the 17th anniversary of the 26/11 terror attacks on November 26, with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, state minister Ashish Shelar and senior police officials paying homage to those who sacrificed their lives.
Fadnavis laid floral tributes at the police headquarters, while family members of fallen officers also honoured their bravery. Maharashtra Director General of Police Rashmi Shukla and Mumbai Police Commissioner Deven Bharti were present.
President Droupadi Murmu and Union Home Minister Amit Shah paid tribute to the martyrs in separate messages. On X, President Murmu said, “On the anniversary of 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, I pay my humble tribute to the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives to protect the people of our country… Let us reaffirm our commitment to combat terrorism in all forms.”
Union Home Minister Shah emphasised the government’s “zero-tolerance policy” against terrorism. “I pay my respects to the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives while facing the Mumbai terrorist attacks… the entire world is appreciating and providing broad support to India’s anti-terrorism campaigns,” he said.

The attacks, carried out by ten terrorists of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) on November 26, 2008, targeted multiple high-profile locations, including the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, Oberoi Trident, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) and Nariman House, leaving 166 dead and over 300 injured.
Homage ceremonies were also held at CSMT, Cama and Albless Hospital, and “Prerana Sthal”, commemorating Assistant Sub Inspector Tukaram Ombale, who was killed confronting terrorist Ajmal Kasab. In the evening, the National Security Guard (NSG) organised a “Neverever” memorial and pledge gathering at Gateway of India, attended by victims’ families and citizens.
The US Embassy in India expressed solidarity, noting the extradition of Tahawwur Hussain Rana earlier this year for his role in the attacks, as part of ongoing efforts to ensure justice and strengthen anti-terror cooperation with India.
