The National Cadet Corps (NCC) is set to expand its reach, with the Defence Ministry announcing that the strength of cadets will touch 20 lakh in the coming years.
As the world’s largest uniformed youth organisation, the NCC has completed 76 years since its inception in 1948.
On the occasion of its 76th Raising Day, the Ministry highlighted the significant strides the Corps has made in increasing its cadet strength by 3 lakh, with plans for further growth.
"The NCC has made commendable efforts in increasing the strength of cadets by 3 lakh and will be touching the strength of 20 lakh in coming years," Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh said.
Singh, who laid a wreath at the National War Memorial in homage to fallen heroes on behalf of the NCC, emphasised the role of the Corps in the 'Viksit Bharat' campaign, a crucial initiative by the Government of India aimed at creating a developed nation.
"The NCC continues its relentless efforts, towards moulding the present-day youth into responsible citizens of tomorrow in order to achieve the objective of 'Yuva Shakti' - Viksit Bharat," he added.
This year’s Raising Day celebrations include marches and cultural activities, with cadets actively participating in nationwide 'Blood Donation Camps', with the number of blood units likely to exceed last year’s record of 50,000.
The Ministry also noted that the NCC is engaged in various social and environmental activities such as tree plantation drives, statue clean-ups, 'Swachhta hi Sewa' campaigns, and the Nasha Mukti Abhiyaan (Anti-Substance Abuse Movement).
Additionally, the training and syllabus for NCC cadets have been revamped to align with government initiatives, ensuring that cadets are equipped with the skills to contribute meaningfully to the nation’s progress.
This overhaul aims to bolster the character and confidence of cadets, paving the way for the vision of a 'Viksit Bharat'.
