NCW Chief Rekha Sharma termed it a "big issue," urging accountability from the Karnataka government. The commission condemned the incident, emphasising the need for prompt and decisive action to apprehend the accused, who has fled the country.
Prajwal Revanna faces allegations of sexual harassment, intimidation, and outraging the dignity of a woman, leading to a recommendation for his suspension by the JD(S) core committee.
The case, registered under multiple sections of the IPC, stems from complaints by his former house help, alleging inappropriate behaviour and assault.
The state government has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the matter, following requests from the state women's panel and CM Siddaramaiah.
The BJP, in alliance with JD(S) for the ongoing Lok Sabha elections in Karnataka, has distanced itself from Revanna amid the controversy, underscoring the gravity of the allegations.
Earlier, on April 25, the chairperson of the state women’s panel requested CM Siddaramaiah to order an SIT probe into the obscene clips, allegedly involving the JD(S) MP, circulating on social media.
Following the request, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah informed on April 28 that the state government has decided to constitute a Special Investigation Team (SIT) in connection with Prajwal Revanna’s alleged obscene video case in Hassan district.
