The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is currently holding a significant meeting at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) headquarters in Delhi, focusing on strategies for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections.
The meeting, chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP President JP Nadda, includes several prominent NDA leaders, such as Chirag Paswan and Jitan Ram Manjhi. Union Ministers Dharmendra Prasad, Kiren Rijiju, and Sarbananda Sonowal are also participating in the discussions.
As the meeting unfolds, the primary agenda is to strategize for the Delhi Assembly polls, which are expected to take place in early 2025. In preparation for these elections, Nadda has recently appointed Baijayant Panda, the MP from Kendrapara in Odisha, as the party’s election in-charge for Delhi.
Atul Garg has been designated as the co-in-charge for these elections, indicating the BJP's serious approach towards maximising its electoral prospects in the national capital.
The BJP is particularly focused on enhancing its engagement with various community groups. On October 2, leaders from the Sikh community met with Nadda and other key BJP figures to discuss strategies aimed at garnering support from the Sikh population in Delhi.
This initiative reflects the party's commitment to reaching out to different segments of society and promoting the government's achievements within these communities.
The political landscape in Delhi has seen significant shifts recently. Atishi's ascent to the position of Chief Minister marks a new chapter in the region's governance. She is now the third woman to hold this office, following the footsteps of Sushma Swaraj and Sheila Dikshit.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has established a stronghold in the Delhi Assembly, winning 62 out of 70 seats in the last elections held in 2020, while the BJP managed to secure only eight seats. The Congress party, on the other hand, was unable to win any seats, reflecting its declining influence in the region.
