Ahead of the Monsoon Session of Parliament, a high level meeting of the Group of Ministers was held in New Delhi at Defense Minister Rajnath Singh’s residence on Friday.
Union Minister’s Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, Rajiv Ranjan Singh, Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu and Kiren Rijiju were present in the meeting. During the meeting, the leaders chalked out the strategy for the upcoming parliamentary session. The Monsoon Session of Parliament will commence from 20th of this month and continue till 13th of the next month.
Officials stated that the government’s legislative priorities will include two pending bills: the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026, introduced earlier this year, and the Viksit Bharat Shiksha Adhishthan Bill, 2025, which was introduced in the Lok Sabha on December 15, 2025, before being referred to a Joint Committee.
The government also intends to introduce five new bills during the session. These are the Income-tax (Amendment) Bill, 2026, and the Supreme Court (Number of Judges) Amendment Bill, 2026, both aimed at replacing existing ordinances. Additional proposed legislation includes the Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Bill, 2026, the Prevention of Insults to National Honour (Amendment) Bill, 2026, and the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development (Amendment) Bill, 2026.
On the other hand, Opposition party leaders in the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha are scheduled to meet on July 20, the opening day of the Monsoon Session, to develop a joint strategy. The Opposition is expected to review the Centre’s legislative agenda and determine the issues it plans to raise during the session.
Meanwhile, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has named its Parliamentary Party meeting, scheduled to be held on July 21, as 'Mangal Milan.'The meeting will be held at 9:30 am at the GMC Balayogi Auditorium in the Parliament Library Building and will be attended by all NDA MPs from both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha.
The meeting of NDA leaders assumes significance in the wake of the legislative agenda of the government.Several significant bills are expected to be taken up during the Monsoon Session, which will continue till August 13, as announced earlier by Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju.The session is also expected to witness intense political exchanges amid recent developments in several opposition parties. Political realignments over the past few weeks are likely to have an impact on the dynamics inside Parliament.
