NEET Results Spark Outrage: MK Stalin, Priyanka Gandhi React.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has called for solidarity among state governments to address the discrepancies surrounding the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET). He emphasised the need for collective action to rectify injustices and flaws in the examination process.

Stalin criticised the conduct of NEET and similar entrance exams, labelling them as discriminatory towards economically disadvantaged students. He argued that these exams undermine the autonomy of state governments and exacerbate disparities in the distribution of healthcare professionals.

In a statement, Stalin highlighted concerns such as question paper leaks, clustering of top performers at specific centres, and questionable awarding of marks.

He underscored the detrimental effects of centralised decision-making by the Union Government, urging a restoration of states' authority in determining admission criteria for professional courses.

Echoing Stalin's sentiments, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra condemned the alleged irregularities in NEET and demanded a thorough investigation into the matter. She expressed dismay over reports of students' suicides and dissatisfaction with the exam results, calling for accountability from the government.

Vadra raised concerns about the integrity of NEET results, particularly pointing out anomalies such as multiple students achieving perfect scores from the same examination centre. She emphasised the government's responsibility to address students' legitimate grievances and ensure transparency in the examination process.

However, the National Testing Agency (NTA) refuted claims of irregularities and attributed the record-breaking results to various factors. These factors included the perceived ease of the exam, increased registrations, a question with multiple correct answers, and the allocation of grace marks due to technical issues during the exam.

Despite the controversy surrounding NEET, the NTA reported that over 20 lakh students registered for the exam, with approximately 11 lakh candidates qualifying. The announcement of 67 students achieving the top rank further fueled debates about the fairness and integrity of the examination system.

As concerns persist regarding NEET's fairness and transparency, it remains imperative for authorities to address these issues and restore confidence in the examination process.

The calls for unity among state governments and demands for accountability from the central government underscore the urgency of addressing the discrepancies surrounding NEET to ensure equal opportunities for all aspiring medical students.
