The Indian Army recently inaugurated a new selfie point at Hombotingla Pass in Ladakh, paying tribute to the 25th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas. This joint initiative by the Indian Army and the Tourism Department of Kargil aims to honour the bravery and sacrifice of soldiers who fought in the Kargil War.

Nestled amidst the spectacular Zanskar ranges of Kargil, this selfie point offers stunning views of Kargil Town and the Mighty Batalik Sector. Adorned with the resounding slogan 'I Love Indian Army,' the site serves as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made in defence of the nation.

The inauguration ceremony witnessed the participation of veterans, school and college children, religious leaders, and community members, evoking memories of the courage displayed by our armed forces during the Kargil conflict. The event underscored the indomitable spirit of our soldiers and aimed to promote tourism and patriotism in the region.

With the hashtag #KVDRajatJayanti, the Selfie Point invites visitors to capture and share moments of reverence for the bravery and sacrifice of our soldiers.

It provides tourists with panoramic views of the rugged terrain and the serene beauty of the surrounding landscapes, offering a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the rich history and natural splendour of the region.

This initiative is part of the Indian Army's efforts to commemorate the valour of our armed forces and promote tourism in Kargil. The selfie point is strategically located and expected to attract tourists from across the country and abroad, thereby boosting the local economy and fostering pride among the residents of Kargil.

Notably, this is the third such Selfie Point constructed by the Indian Army this month, following ones at Khaltse and Hamboting La.

The Kargil conflict, which lasted over two months, culminated in the successful pushback of Pakistani intruders by the Indian Army, marking a historic victory on July 26, 1999, known as "Operation Vijay."
