The Delhi Police has released a traffic and metro advisory to ensure smooth celebrations on New Year’s Eve, December 31, in the national capital.

Key Celebration Spots

Popular areas like Connaught Place, India Gate, and Hauz Khas are expected to see heavy crowds as people gather with family and friends to welcome the New Year. Authorities have planned several measures to ensure public safety and manage traffic effectively.

Traffic Management

To keep traffic flowing smoothly, around 2,500 Delhi Traffic Police personnel will be on duty, along with 250 teams specifically tasked with cracking down on drunken driving.

Restrictions in Connaught Place

Traffic restrictions will be in effect around Connaught Place starting at 8 PM and will remain until the celebrations end past midnight. Vehicles without valid passes will not be allowed into the inner, middle, or outer circles of Connaught Place.

Key intersections such as Mandi House and Bengali Market will serve as checkpoints, beyond which access will be restricted. Limited parking will be available near designated areas like Gole Dak Khana, Patel Chowk, and Mandi House on a first-come, first-served basis.

Vehicles parked illegally in restricted zones may be towed or fined.

Metro Advisory

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has also announced changes to its services for December 31.

  • Rajiv Chowk Station: No exits will be allowed after 9 PM to prevent overcrowding, but entry will remain open until the last train departs.
  • Rest of the Metro Network: Services will run as per the regular timetable.
  • Passengers are advised to plan their travel accordingly and use alternative routes where necessary.

Alternate Routes

For those travelling to New Delhi Railway Station, suggested routes include Ram Manohar Lohiya Park Street, Mandir Marg, and Rani Jhansi Road. Metro travel is highly recommended to avoid road congestion.

Authorities have also advised avoiding Bhairon Road and Mathura Road, particularly between Hazrat Nizamuddin and Pragati Maidan, due to possible traffic jams.

With these measures in place, the Delhi Police aims to ensure safe and enjoyable New Year’s Eve celebrations for everyone.
