The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has expanded its online FASTag Local Pass facility to 121 toll plazas across the country, allowing eligible commuters to apply for monthly passes digitally through the Rajmargyatra mobile app.
The initiative is aimed at making National Highway travel more convenient by eliminating the need for eligible local commuters to visit toll plazas and submit physical documents for obtaining a Local Pass.Under the digital system, residents living within a 20-km radius of an eligible toll plaza can apply for the pass online. The Local Pass allows eligible commuters to make unlimited trips through the respective toll plaza during the month, subject to applicable provisions.
The first digital Local Pass facility was launched in July 2026 at the Mundka-Bakkarwala Toll Plaza on Delhi’s Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II). Following the rollout, NHAI has now extended the facility to more than 120 toll plazas across the country and plans to cover additional toll plazas in the coming months.
Under the initiative ,Digital verification replaces physical documentation. Previously, commuters seeking a Local Pass had to visit the concerned toll plaza and submit documents to establish their residential address and other eligibility requirements.
The new system uses consent-based integration with government digital platforms, including DigiLocker and VAHAN, to retrieve and verify information such as the applicant’s residential address, vehicle details and linked FASTag. Eligibility is further determined through GIS-based verification, which checks whether the applicant’s registered address falls within the prescribed 20-km radius of the relevant toll plaza.
NHAI said the integration of verified digital information with GIS-based validation eliminates the requirement for manual documentation and physical verification. It is also expected to improve consistency and accuracy in determining eligibility while reducing manual intervention.
The authority said the digitalisation of Local Pass services is part of the government’s broader Digital India and Ease of Living initiatives and is intended to make tolling operations more transparent, efficient and citizen-centric.Authorities have said National Highway users can check the list of eligible toll plazas through the NHAI Rajmargyatra Local Pass portal.
