The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed charge-sheets against eight individuals accused of being part of a transnational syndicate trafficking Rohingyas and Bangladeshis into India using forged documents.
The development marks a significant step in the agency's ongoing efforts to dismantle a widespread human trafficking network.
The charge-sheet names Jalil Miah, Hanan Miah, absconder Kajal Sarkar, Adhir Das, and Anwar Hussain alias Mama, all reportedly operating from Tripura.
Additionally, Kamal Das, brother of the already charge-sheeted Amol Chandra Das, operating from Silchar, and West Bengal-based Liton Chakraborty have also been named.
The eighth accused, Bangladeshi national Rabiyl Hasan alias Rabiul Hassan, is noted for his extensive connections with arrested operatives in Assam, West Bengal, Tripura, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka.
According to the NIA’s investigations, Liton Chakraborty was instrumental in preparing Indian identification documents for Bangladeshi nationals using fake or forged supporting documents.
The NIA stated that Rabiyl Hasan was well-connected with several accused across multiple states, facilitating the movement and exploitation of trafficked individuals.
The NIA, which registered the case in October 2023, found that the trafficked individuals were being coerced into hard labor for low wages and were exploited under the threat of arrest.
This case, initially registered by the Assam Special Task Force (STF) in September 2023, has revealed a complex network of traffickers operating across India and Bangladesh.
Earlier, the NIA had charge-sheeted 24 Bangladeshi nationals in connection with the same case.
The investigation has exposed a vast and intricate network of transnational human trafficking operated by various facilitators, touts, and traffickers across Assam, Tripura, West Bengal, and Bangladesh.
The NIA continues to search for absconders and other suspects, aiming to completely dismantle this illicit network.
"The probe has revealed a strong nexus between all such operatives," the NIA stated.
