The National Investigation Agency (NIA) intensified its probe into the Rameshwaram Cafe blast case with raids at 11 locations across Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh. These raids are part of an effort to uncover the full conspiracy behind the blast and identify other conspirators involved in aiding the accused from abroad.
The coordinated action saw NIA teams conducting extensive searches at premises linked to 11 suspects in the case. The explosion at the cafe on ITPL Road, Brookefield in Bengaluru, Karnataka, occurred on March 1 this year, injuring several customers and staff members and causing significant property damage.
Among those targeted in these searches were individuals previously convicted in the 2012 Lashkar-e-Taiba conspiracy case in Bengaluru and Hubli districts. The NIA's searches led to the seizure of various digital devices and documents, which are now being thoroughly examined for further clues.
The NIA took over the investigation (RC-01/2024/NIA/BLR) from the Karnataka State Police on March 3 this year. In a significant breakthrough, the agency arrested Mussavir Hussain Shazib and Abdul Matheen Taha from their hideout in Kolkata, West Bengal, on April 12 after a nationwide hunt. Both men, residents of Thirthahalli in Shivamogga district, were identified as the perpetrator and mastermind of the attack, respectively.
The investigation into the Rameshwaram Cafe blast is ongoing, with the NIA working to piece together the broader network involved.
