The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted a series of raids in Bengaluru today in connection with the case involving a plot for prison radicalisation.
These search operations were conducted at the locations linked with Junaid Ahmed, who is a prime accused in the suspected terror plot. Besides Ahmed’s places, Search operations were also carried out on five of his associates - Suhail Ahmed, Mohammed Umar, Jahid Tabrej, Syed Mudassir Pasha, and Faizal Rabbani. All of them were detained in July this year by the Bengaluru Crime Branch. Ahmed has been on the run and has since resided in Dubai.
This year, on July 18, after receiving intel from a central agency, the Bengaluru Central Crime Branch (CCB) apprehended five individuals in the city known for their criminal history. They were allegedly in possession of seven country-made pistols and 45 live bullets, indicating potential preparation for a terrorist act, as per the official sources.
The individuals arrested in 2017 were purportedly radicalised in prison by T Nasir, who is an alleged operative of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). Nasir had been detained in 2009 in connection with a series of attempted blasts in Bengaluru the previous year. At present, under trial for the past 13 years in the serial blasts case, Nasir is also implicated in the recent prison radicalisation plot.
