The Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman, Harivansh, has rejected the no-confidence motion filed by the Opposition against D, describing the move as "severely flawed" and "bereft of facts."
On December 10, at least 60 MPs from the Opposition’s INDIA bloc had submitted a notice seeking the removal of Dhankhar, accusing him of conducting parliamentary proceedings in a "partisan manner."
Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh, who led the charge, said, “ALL parties belonging to the INDIA group have had no option but to formally submit a no-confidence motion against the learned Hon’ble Chairman of the Rajya Sabha for the extremely partisan manner in which he has been conducting the proceedings of the Council of States.”
In his ruling, Deputy Chairman Harivansh dismissed the motion, labelling it an attempt to gain "publicity" rather than based on any legitimate grounds. He pointed out numerous flaws in the petition, including the lack of an addressee, missing resolution text, misspelling of Dhankhar’s name, and reliance on unverified media reports.
"The gravity of this personally targeted notice, bereft of facts and aimed at securing publicity, makes it an expedient misadventure in deliberately trivialising and demeaning the high constitutional office of Vice President of the largest democracy,” said Harivansh.
The deputy chairman’s ruling stated that the notice was aimed at "denigrating the nation’s constitutional institutions" and "maligning the incumbent Vice President."
He concluded that the notice was "severely flawed" and "deserved to be dismissed."
