Search operations to trace terrorists involved in the killing of an IAF corporal entered its fifth day on Wednesday. Killers of a village defence guard (VDG) almost two weeks ago also remained at large, officials said.
Searches have intensified in the twin districts of Rajouri and Poonch.
Security forces have also broadened their search to include the regions of Doda, Udhampur, and Kathua districts to locate two groups of terrorists believed to have killed the VDG in the Basantgarh area on April 28.
On Saturday, the terrorists targeted an IAF convoy in the Shaistar region of Poonch district, killing an IAF corporal and injuring four others.
Armed with high-tech equipment, including drones and night vision devices, and helped by sniffer dogs, security forces are combing both districts, officials said.
Despite routes leading to Kashmir Valley being plugged the terrorists have managed to evade surveillance in the dense forest areas, they added.
Around 22 people have been held for questioning and officials are checking CCTV footage for clues, an Army spokesperson said.
Meanwhile, security forces initiated a new cordon and search operation after receiving information about the suspicious movement of some people in Rajouri. A high security alert has been issued.
Search operations for the VDG’s killers entered the 11th day on Wednesday and was expanded to include the Bhalessa parts of Doda district from Basantgarh, Dudu, Bani, and Seoj areas of Udhampur and Kathua districts, according to an official.
Jammu ADGP Anand Jain had previously said that the two groups of terrorists who had infiltrated from across the border were thought to be present in the region.
