Reliance Industries has confirmed that there are no more Russian crude oil imports to be expected in January 2026, in tandem with its November 20, 2025, statement on halting import of Russian oil for its export-oriented Special Economic Zone unit in Jamnagar.
The latest statement from the conglomerate also mentions that its Jamnagar refinery – the largest in the world – had not received any Russian oil in the last three weeks.
“Reliance Industries’ Jamnagar refinery has not received any cargo of Russian oil at its refinery in the past three weeks approximately, and is not expecting any Russian crude oil deliveries in January,” the statement said.
The company’s remarks come in the wake of US President Donald Trump claims that India would not do anything that makes Trump “unhappy”, referring to the President’s demand that India stop buying oil from Russia, which Trump says fuels Moscow’s “war machine”.
Trump also threatened to impose more tariffs that could “come quickly” if India continued its purchases of Russian crude oil.

The US administration had earlier imposed an additional 25 per cent “punitive” tariff on Indian goods back in August, 2025, for buying Russian crude oil on top the 25 per cent duties that had been in force.
The EU and the UK had also sanctioned Nayara Energy, one of the largest importers of Russian oil that’s backed by Moscow’s Rosneft.
The latest data from the Centre, however, shows that India actually increased its Russian oil imports in November 2025 to 7.7 million tonnes – the highest in six months. With this, Russia’s share in India’s oil import totalled to 35.1 per cent.
