Extreme Heatwave Forecasted for Northern Regions on June 3 By IMD.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted that heatwave conditions will affect most parts of the country on June 3. According to the weather bulletin, isolated pockets in Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, Jammu division, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha are likely to experience heatwave conditions.

In response to this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a meeting to assess the situation and preparedness for the impending heatwave and the onset of the monsoon.

The Prime Minister was briefed on IMD's forecasts, indicating that the heatwave is expected to persist in parts of Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh.

The Prime Minister emphasised the importance of conducting fire and electrical safety audits in hospitals and public places regularly. He also stressed the necessity of conducting drills to maintain firelines in forests and ensuring the productive utilisation of biomass.

Furthermore, PM Modi was informed about the effectiveness of the "van agni" portal in identifying forest fires promptly and managing them efficiently.

As heat waves continue to grip several parts of the country, the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) confirmed at least 56 deaths from heatstroke across multiple states.

The onset of the Southwest Monsoon occurred on the Kerala coast and advanced into parts of northeast India on Thursday, as reported by the Indian Meteorological Department. This year, the monsoon arrived two days earlier than the usual onset date of June 1.

In addition, Kerala experienced widespread pre-monsoon rains this year. In 2023, the rainfall over the country during the monsoon season (June-September) was recorded at 94 percent of its long-period average.
