The Jammu And Kashmir National Conference vice president and former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah, is ready to file his second nomination for the Budgam seat today.
The party’s social media and digital media in charge, Ifra Jan, who looks after the party’s online presence across the different media social media and digital media platforms, confirmed that Omar will file his second nomination from the Budgam seat today.
According to party sources, he will be accompanied by the Member of Lok Sabha from Srinagar constituency, Syed Aga Ruhullah Mehdi, while filling his papers at the Deputy Commissioner (DC) office in Budgam today at around noon.
Several other senior leaders of the party, including the workers, are also supposed to accompany Omar.
As Rahul Gandhi in the recently concluded Lok Sabha contested on two seats, Omar has followed suit by being the only candidate in the upcoming assembly elections to file nominations for two different seats.
Earlier he filed his nomination papers from the Ganderbal constituency, where Omar was elected twice as a member of the J&K assembly.
The Budgam constituency has been a stronghold for the NC for decades. The minority Shia population has always voted for and backed the NC.
The party’s current MP in Lok Sabha, Aga Ruhullah, is a native of Budgam town whose stature as a leader has grown in the past years.
He will be a main factor for NC in the Budgam constituency as he is a massively popular leader among youth both in Shia and Sunni majority communities.
Voting for the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir is scheduled to commence on September 18, 25, and October 1. The results for the same will be declared on October 8.
