To mark World Health Day on April 7, Prime Minister Narendra Modi led tributes to the global healthcare community, offering his thanks to those who work tirelessly to maintain a healthier planet. In a message shared on X, the Prime Minister took the opportunity to reiterate the government's focus on bolstering the nation's medical infrastructure and ensuring that the well-being of every citizen remains a top priority.

Among those who joined in paying tribute to Dr BC Roy, the Union Health Minister, JP Nadda spoke about the efforts being made by the government to integrate traditional medicine with modern medicine under its current health care policy framework. Citing flagship programs like Ayushman Bharat scheme and PM Bharatiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana, he mentioned that due to the initiatives taken by the government, quality medical treatments have become much more accessible and affordable for patients across the country.

In the capital, Delhi's chief minister, Rekha Gupta, reiterated the close connection between good health and living standards. Her promise was made to build "a healthier and fitter Delhi." This was in line with the notion that good health care forms the basis of any prosperous society.

The celebration of World Health Day reminds us of the establishment of the World Health Organization in 1948. For over seven decades, the day has been used to champion public health standards and encourage healthier lifestyles across the globe. This year’s theme, “Together for health. “Stand with Science,” emphasises the role of cooperation among scientists in ensuring the well-being of humans as well as animals and nature. The aim of “Stand with Science” is to convince people, both political leaders and common citizens, about the need to apply scientific knowledge to improve lives.
