In a written response to a query, Kirti Vardhan Singh, the Minister of State for External Affairs, outlined the government’s concerted efforts to secure the release of Indian nationals recruited by Russia's military.
The query had sought details regarding the number of Indian nationals still serving in the Russian military and the reasons for delays in their repatriation, despite repeated assurances from Russian authorities.
Singh confirmed that most of the Indian nationals who had been serving in the Russian armed forces have now been discharged and repatriated to India.
"As a result of concerted efforts by the government, most of the Indian nationals in the Russian armed forces have been discharged and several have been repatriated to India," he said in his reply.
The minister also noted that of the remaining 19 Indian nationals, the government had sought information from Russian authorities about their whereabouts and status.
Singh further assured that the government had requested the Russian authorities to ensure the safety, well-being, and timely discharge of these remaining personnel.
On the issue of whether these Indian nationals were serving on the war front, Singh stated that no further details were available.
The Indian mission is actively in contact with the remaining personnel, monitoring their situation and continuing efforts for their repatriation.
