The Opposition is set to protest in the Rajya Sabha against the ruling party’s objections to speech by the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi.
In line with the floor strategy, that INDIA bloc MPs discussed today in the presence of Gandhi at the office of Mallikarjun Kharge, the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, the Opposition’s protests are set to continue for allegedly preventing Rahul Gandhi from addressing the Lower House and citing former Army Chief General MM Naravane’s unpublished memoir on the 2020 China standoff.
Both Houses of Parliament are scheduled to resume discussion on the motion of ‘Thanks to the President’s Address’ during the ongoing Budget Session, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi expected to reply in the Rajya Sabha to the Motion of Thanks.
The PM was to reply to the Motion of Thanks on the President’s Address on Wednesday; but couldn’t do so after the Speaker, Om Birla, adjourned the Lok Sabha on account of repeated disruptions and sloganeering by the Opposition members.

In the lower House, the motion was moved by Sarbananda Sonowal and seconded by Tejasvi Surya. The House has allotted 18 hours for the discussion. In the Upper House, BJP MP Sadananad Master had moved the motion of thanks in response to President Droupadi Murmu’s address to the joint sitting of both the Houses to mark the beginning of the Budget Session on January 28.
Meanwhile, Congress MP Manish Tewari on Thursday moved an adjournment motion in the Lok Sabha, urging the House to debate on a matter of “grave public importance” related to the India-US trade deal and energy understanding.
Additionally, Birla adjourned the Lok Sabha proceedings on Thursday till 12 noon over the uproar created in the House on Wednesday.
As soon as the House assembled, Birla said the way opposition members marched towards the treasury benches on Wednesday evening was against the dignity of the House.
Birla said such behaviour degrades the laid down decorum and dignity and it becomes difficult for any presiding officer to run the House under such circumstances.
More dramatic scenes were witnessed yesterday when women opposition MPs charged towards the Prime Minister’s seat holding banners ahead of his scheduled speech, leading to adjournment of proceedings for the day.
