“Opposition is playing politics over this”: Amit Shah on Lok Sabha breach

Union Minister Amit Shah denounced opposition leaders for playing politics over the Parliament breach matter, adding the report of the enquiry committee on the matter will be shared soon with the Lok Sabha Speaker.

“This is a serious incident. Opposition is playing politics over this. Of course there has been a lapse. But everybody knows Parliament security is under the Speaker and the Speaker wrote to the Ministry of Home Affairs. We have formed an enquiry committee and that report will be sent to the Speaker soon”, the Union Minister said while addressing a media session.

This was the first statement made by Shah on the breach incident. Among the recent developments, the alleged “mastermind” of the Lok Sabha security breach - Lalit Jha is now under police custody and was previously on the run. Accompanied by another man, Lalit arrived at the Kartavya Path Police station, where he was subsequently transferred to the Delhi Police’s Special Cell.

The four individuals involved in the security breach have been charged with terrorism under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). A startling incident unfolded in Parliament on Wednesday during Zero Hour when two individuals Sagar Sharma and Manoranjan D, jumped into the Lok Sabha chamber from the public gallery. They released yellow gas from canisters, shouted slogans, and were subsequently subdued by MPs. Simultaneously, two other suspects Neelam Devi and Amol Shinde sprayed coloured gas outside the Parliament premises, chanting “tanashahi nahi chalegi” (dictatorship will not be tolerated).

Police have stated that the security breach in the Lok Sabha was well-coordinated and meticulously planned, allegedly involving six individuals.
