Just hours after a ceasefire agreement was announced between India and Pakistan, reports of fresh violations by Pakistan have emerged across north India, escalating tensions along the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB).

The ceasefire, effective from 5:00 pm on Saturday, May 10, 2025, was intended to halt all military actions on land, air, and sea following days of intense cross-border hostilities.

According to sources, Pakistan breached the ceasefire with artillery shelling reported in Akhnoor, Rajouri, and RS Pura along the IB in Jammu and Kashmir. Additionally, drones were sighted over Mamoon Cantt in Pathankot, Punjab, and multiple locations in Rajasthan, including Jaisalmer and Barmer.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah took to X, stating, “This is no ceasefire. The air defence units in the middle of Srinagar just opened up,” as explosions and sirens echoed across Srinagar.

Indian forces responded swiftly, with the BSF directed to retaliate with full force, as per the media reports. Air defense systems in Srinagar intercepted Pakistani drones, and blackouts were enforced in several areas, including Udhampur, Vaishno Devi Temple, Jaisalmer, Pathankot, and Gurdaspur, as a precautionary measure.

The ceasefire violation has drawn sharp criticism from Indian officials and political leaders. BJP MP Nishikant Dubey condemned Pakistan’s actions, while former Jammu and Kashmir DGP SP Vaid called the violation a betrayal of the truce. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed frustration, questioning, “What the hell just happened to the ceasefire? Explosions heard across Srinagar!!!”

The ceasefire agreement, announced by Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, followed a call initiated by Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) to his Indian counterpart at 3:35 PM IST. The truce was hailed by US President Donald Trump, who announced on Truth Social, “India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE.” However, the rapid violation has cast doubts on the agreement’s viability, with Indian officials emphasizing that peace depends on Pakistan’s adherence.

The conflict, which intensified after a terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22, 2025, that killed 26 civilians, has seen significant military engagements, including India’s Operation Sindoor, which targeted terror facilities in Pakistan on May 7. The Indian Air Force reportedly damaged 8 Pakistani air bases between May 8 and 10.
