Police CID (Security) Intelligence on Tuesday arrested a suspected Pakistani spy in Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer for allegedly leaking sensitive defence information.
The accused, Mahendra Prasad, 32, was employed as the manager of the DRDO Guest House at the Chandan Field Firing Range, a critical facility for missile and weapon trials. He is alleged to have been in regular contact with a Pakistani intelligence handler, passing on classified details about India’s defence activities.
CID (Security) Inspector General Dr. Vishnukant said the arrest came as part of heightened surveillance on anti-national activities ahead of Independence Day. Investigators had been monitoring Prasad, a contractual worker at the DRDO Guest House and a native of Palyun in Almora, Uttarakhand, over suspicions of espionage.
Authorities allege Prasad used social media to maintain communication with his handler, supplying information on the movement of DRDO scientists and Indian Army officers visiting the Chandan Field Firing Range.

Following his detention, security agencies conducted a joint interrogation and a technical analysis of his mobile phone. Officials said the investigation confirmed that he had shared sensitive DRDO and Army-related information with his Pakistani contact.
Mahendra Prasad was formally arrested on charges of espionage. The CID is now investigating the extent of the security breach and whether additional individuals were involved.
Security agencies have reiterated their commitment to protecting India’s strategic establishments and urged all personnel in sensitive positions to remain alert and report suspicious approaches immediately.
