A pan-India motorcycle expedition has commenced to commemorate the 25th anniversary of India's victory in the Kargil conflict, with three teams embarking from different corners of the country.

Led by the Regiment of Artillery, the expedition aims to honor the brave soldiers' sacrifices and showcase their significant contributions, the defence ministry stated.

"The Indian Army has initiated a pan-India motorcycle expedition today, paying tribute to the valorous heroes of the Kargil war," the ministry said.

Three teams of eight motorcyclists each have set off from Dinjan in the east, Dwarka in the west, and Dhanushkodi in the south. Their journey symbolises unity and resilience, traversing diverse terrains and challenging routes.

During their expedition, the teams will meet Kargil war heroes, veterans, and 'veer nari' along the way, paying homage at war memorials and encouraging youth to join the armed forces.

The eastern route covers 2,489 km from Dinjan to Delhi, passing through Jorhat, Guwahati, Katihar, Danapur, Lucknow, and Agra.

The western route spans nearly 1,565 km from Dwarka to Delhi, crossing Dhrangadhra, Ahmedabad, Udaipur, Jaipur, and Alwar.

The southern route covers around 2,963 km from Dhanuskodi to Delhi, passing through Madurai, Coimbatore, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Nagpur, and Bhopal.

On June 26, the teams will converge in Delhi and proceed to Dras along two different routes. One route covers Ambala, Amritsar, Jammu, and Srinagar, while the other passes through Chandimandir, Manali, Leh, and Tangtse.

The expedition's final leg will culminate at Gun Hill in Dras, a place of strategic importance during the Kargil war, honoring the soldiers' relentless spirit and dedication.

Flag-off and flag-in ceremonies will be held at prominent places with senior military officials, veterans, and dignitaries present to felicitate the riders and honor the veterans and 'veer nari'.

Operation Vijay, India's limited war against Pakistan in 1999, concluded successfully on July 26, marking victory after a three-month-long battle at Kargil's icy heights.
