The National Human Rights Commission has asked Mumbai Police to register a case against actor Ranbir Kapoor, the producers of the web show The Ba***ds of Bollywood, and Netflix for their involvement in the advertisement, depiction, or promotion of e-cigarettes in contravention of the Prohibition of Electronic Cigarettes Act, 2019.
In one of the scenes, Ranbir Kapoor is seen smoking an e-cigarette without any warning or disclaimer, complainant Vinay Joshi told the commission.
The complainant further alleged that the scene was streamed openly, which misled or negatively influenced young viewers by promoting the use of such banned substances. The complainant expressed concerns that such irresponsible content promotes illegal activities, disrespects law enforcement, and harms public health and morality.

The commission has issued a notice to the Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, urging appropriate action to immediately prohibit such content that may wrongly influence young generations.
The Commissioner of Police, Mumbai, has been asked to initiate an investigation into the identity and operations of manufacturers and importers of electronic cigarettes. The commissioner has given two weeks' time to file the action report with the commission. Directed by Aryan Khan, 'The Ba***ds of Bollywood' is currently streaming on Netflix.
