The Maharashtra Government has formed a technical committee consisting of engineers, IIT experts, and Navy officials to investigate the causes of the Shivaji Maharaj statue collapse in Malvan, located in coastal Konkan, as per an official statement.
A press release from the Chief Minister’s office announced that the government has also established a committee to construct a "magnificent statue suiting the grandeur" of the warrior king.
The decision was made by CM Eknath Shinde, following a meeting with senior ministers, government officials, and Navy officials at his official residence Varsha in South Mumbai on Wednesday night, as per the statement.
An FIR has been filed against the contractor responsible for the 35-foot statue, which crumbled just eight months after its unveiling by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 4.
The FIR follows a complaint by the Public Works Department, which claims the statue's construction was of poor quality, and the nuts and bolts used in the structure were found to be rusted.
